The VKR Group: We invest in daylight, fresh air, and a better environment

DOVISTA is part of the VKR Group and a sister company to VELUX. VKR Holding is the parent company of the VKR Group and functions as a holding and investment company.

The company, now known as VKR Holding A/S, was founded in 1941 by Villum Kann Rasmussen. Today, it is a company dedicated to creating value through financial investment and ownership of companies that improve the indoor climate by bringing daylight and fresh air into people’s everyday lives.

VKR Holding owns companies within two separate business areas – Roof Windows & Skylights and Vertical Windows & Doors. Combined, the companies in VKR Holding employ about 18,500 people in more than 40 countries.

Every year part of the return on our investments is channeled back to society, along with the contributions from the VKR Group to the VILLUM FOUNDATION. The VILLUM FOUNDATION and its two sister foundations, the VELUX FOUNDATION in Denmark, and VELUX STIFTUNG in Switzerland provide financial support for scientific and technical research, and for social, cultural and environmental projects.

Bringing daylight, fresh air, and a better environment into people’s everyday lives

For more than 75 years, the VKR Group has been passionate about bringing daylight, fresh air, and a better environment into people’s everyday lives. The vision is to create value through investments and ownership of companies that develop, produce and market products useful to society. Products that bring daylight, fresh air, and a better environment into people’s everyday lives.

VKR Holding has approximately 40 employees, working primarily with finance and legal matters. The holding company is owned by the family and foundations, with the foundation VILLUM FONDEN as the major shareholder. VILLUM FONDEN’s finances primarily stem from the VKR Group’s company activities, which also finance the sister foundations, e.g., VELUX FONDEN and VELUX STIFTUNG.

All the foundations support a diverse range of charitable programmes within science, environment, social projects and culture.

VKR Holding is also the driving force behind the VILLUM Window Collection in Denmark – probably the world’s only window museum. It displays the history of the window and its importance to people’s access to light, air and views outside.

How the VKR Group came to be

Villum Kann Rasmussen (1909-1993) was an inventive and resourceful man, and the inventor of the VELUX roof window. In 1941, he established the VKR Group that today is a global business.

All his life, Villum Kann Rasmussen was an engineer, an industrialist, an inventor, and a philanthropist. The VKR Group builds on his spirit. And ever since Villum Kann Rasmussen established his company V. Kann Rasmussen & Co in 1941, we have been working on bringing daylight, fresh air, and a better environment into people’s everyday lives.

We did it then, and we do it now.

A Model Company

Back in 1965 Villum Kann Rasmussen had thoughts on how a company should act towards its customers, its surroundings and its employees. He put down his thoughts in what he later named ‘The Model Company Objective’.

“The VKR Group’s objective is to develop a group of Model Companies which cooperate in admirable ways.
A Model Company works with products useful to society and treats its customers, suppliers, employees in every position and shareholders better than most other companies.
A Model Company makes an earning that can finance further growth and secure economic independency.”

Villum Kann Rasmussen, 1965

The Model Company Objective contains the essence of the VKR Group’s approach to social responsibility and forms the overall ambition of our efforts within CSR which all companies in the VKR Group strive to achieve: We wish to act responsibly while ensuring revenue to maintain our growth.

In many ways our ambition equals what we today know as CSR – corporate social responsibility. Our CSR policy involves all companies within the VKR Group.
